ASSISTANT REPRESENTATIVE, CAMBODIA
Nancy Hopkins joined The Asia Foundation in June 1999. She has worked in the international development and human rights sectors for the past eight years. The positions she has held with such organizations as Oxfam America have enabled her to build skills in non-profit organizational development, strategic planning, fundraising, and board development. Through field work in Bangladesh and Cambodia she has developed a good understanding of the particular technical assistance needs of nongovernmental organizations in developing countries and how those needs can be met in appropriate ways. She has experience in assisting organizations to design and develop programs and systems for monitoring program impact, and is also familiar with gender theory and practical strategies for mainstreaming gender concerns into organizational policies and program strategies. Ms. Hopkins has additional skills in the areas of workshop design and facilitation, participatory training methods, and case study development. She has conducted research about human rights in conflict situations in Africa, and also about consensus-building and advocacy techniques nongovernmental organizations can use to influence international policymaking processes.
Ms. Hopkins is a 1994 graduate of the Master of Public Policy program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, where she pursued courses in development economics, statistics, human rights, legislative politics and advocacy, civil society development, and non-profit management.
